1. Scope and Applicability
This PCR applies to one processed spice product belonging to CPC 23924: anise fruit, star anise (badian) fruit, coriander fruit, cumin fruit, caraway fruit, sweet fennel fruit, or juniper berry that is crushed, cut, broken, ground, powdered, dried, cleaned, or otherwise processed. A foreground data package shall represent exactly one botanical species and one final style; it shall not average different species or average whole, cut, cracked, ground, and powdered styles.
The foreground boundary begins with receipt of the declared botanical material at the processing facility and ends with net conforming processed product packaged and released at the factory gate. It includes actual receipt and identity control, dry cleaning and grading, route-applicable washing, drying and cooling, route-applicable microbial reduction, route-applicable crushing or grinding and sieving, packaging, storage, cleaning and sanitation, and route-applicable on-site wastewater treatment. Cultivation, harvesting, inbound transport, manufacture of purchased materials and utilities, distribution, retail, use, and end-of-life are outside the foreground boundary and are represented by linked upstream or downstream datasets when the study scope requires them.
The data package shall declare the marketed plant part and scientific species, incoming fresh or dried state, incoming moisture or water activity basis, every processing operation actually performed, drying technology and heat source, final style, particle-size or sieve specification where relevant, microbial-reduction route, packaging configuration, facility geography, and reporting period. Unprocessed products classified under CPC 01654, other spices, multi-species blends, essential oils, oleoresins, extracts, and compound food preparations are excluded.
