Classification mapping

1. Scope and Applicability
This PCR covers one explicitly declared residual cultivated nut species and lot delivered with the hard shell enclosing the kernel intact. The route may end after harvest at the farm gate or may include species-appropriate removal of a fleshy or fibrous outer hull, drying, grading, and packing before hand-off. It excludes every nut with its own named CPC leaf, wild edible nuts, groundnuts, kernels or other shelled nuts, processed nut foods, and mixed-species products.
A dataset shall represent one species, orchard or plantation system, harvest year, lot or aggregation rule, hull/shell state, moisture basis, grade, and gate. It shall not use this residual category to pool unlike species, wet and dry states, or farm and conditioning gates.
2. Product Category Identity
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| canonical_pcr_id | pcr.agriculture-forestry-and-fishery-products.products-of-agriculture-horticulture-and-market-gardening.other-nuts-excluding-wild-edible-nuts-and-groundnuts-in-shell |
| classification_refs | CPC 3.0: 01379 Other nuts (excluding wild edible nuts and groundnuts), in shell; mapping relation: exact |
| covered_products | one declared cultivated residual nut species in shell, including areca, kola, ginkgo, macadamia, pecan, pignolia or pine nut only when it belongs in CPC 01379 |
| excluded_products | named CPC nut leaves; wild edible nuts; groundnuts; shelled kernels; processed nuts; mixed-species lots |
| representative_product | one declared cultivated residual nut species with the hard shell intact |
| production_route | managed perennial cultivation and harvest, with conditional outer-hull removal, drying, grading, and packing |
| market_state | fresh farm-gate or conditioned/dried in-shell product at the declared farm or primary-conditioning gate |
Fresh farm-gate and conditioned/dried routes coexist, but one dataset selects exactly one terminal state and gate. Species-specific hulling and passive, ambient, or heated drying are alternative technologies and shall not be combined unless the foreground route actually uses them.
3. Reference Flow
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| What | one declared residual cultivated nut species in shell at the selected terminal gate |
| How much | 1,000 kg as-received accepted product |
| How well | species, cultivar if material, origin, orchard system, harvest year, lot, outer-hull state, intact hard-shell state, moisture basis, grade, package form, and gate declared |
| How long or cycle | one productive harvest year and matched post-harvest batches included before the gate |
| reference_flow_link | reference_product_at_declared_handoff |
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Reference amount | 1000 |
| Reference product flow | Other nuts (excluding wild edible nuts and groundnuts), in shell 85d33932-8c99-4207-8011-1bec84102f55 |
| Reference flow property | Mass 93a60a56-a3c8-11da-a746-0800200b9a66 |
| Reference unit group | Units of mass 93a60a57-a4c8-11da-a746-0800200c9a66 |
| Reference unit | kg |
| Required qualifiers | species; cultivar where material; origin; orchard or plantation system; harvest year; lot/aggregation rule; outer-hull state; hard-shell integrity; moisture and basis; grade; package form; gate; included operations |
The fixed flow identifies the residual CPC category and fresh/unprocessed farm-gate concept. When later conditioning is included, the dataset shall disclose the changed state and actual gate without implying a species-neutral dry-product specification.
The sole reference output is reference_product_at_declared_handoff at declared_reference_handoff, a mandatory measurement of the actual accepted product at the already declared gate. Process grading_packing remains conditional: omission of its physical activities does not remove this reference. Select the actual last included product handoff and record its process/output id; accept only the same species, physical state, grade, moisture basis and gate as Section 3. The prior reference_product_output row is the measured output of its actual operation when active, not an additional final sale. No bypass creates processing, a yield assumption, an extra burden or a change of product boundary.
4. Measurement and Unit Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Required property | Required unit | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
reference_mass_as_received | terminal nuts in shell | Mass | kg | Report as-received accepted mass and measured moisture; retain the moisture basis for dry-matter comparison. |
shell_state_identity | all product masses | Mass | kg | Distinguish removable outer hull from the hard shell; accepted reference product retains the hard shell. |
area_to_reference_conversion | orchard flows | activity-specific property | activity-specific unit | Normalize annual productive-area totals to the same harvest year and accepted terminal mass. |
nutrient_content_basis | nutrient inputs | nutrient mass | kg N, kg P2O5, kg K2O | Preserve product mass, formulation, assay, and elemental or oxide basis separately. |
batch_mass_balance | hulling, drying, grading, packing | Mass | kg | Reconcile incoming mass to accepted grades, downgraded product, rejects, removed hulls, and moisture loss without counting evaporated water as waste. |
5. System Boundary
Boundary Abstraction
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| declared_starting_condition | established productive orchard or plantation at reporting-period start; annualized establishment and replacement inputs cross the boundary |
| starting_condition_role | start of the declared productive harvest year |
| product_classification_scope | one cultivated residual nut species that belongs to CPC 01379 and remains in hard shell |
| recursive_input_rule | same-category in-shell nut input is linked to a separate upstream dataset at its actual state and gate and is not re-created through this PCR |
| upstream_dataset_requirement | compatible datasets for planting material, nutrients, crop protection, irrigation, energy, packaging, and any externally treated waste |
| disclosure | species; orchard system; age and productive area; geography; harvest year; allocation periods; yield; hull/shell state; moisture; grade; gate; conditioning route; batches; rejects; packaging; shared assets |
Boundary Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |

Accepted other nuts in shell (reference_product_output)
Record the measured accepted output of grading_packing only when that operation actually occurs. Preserve species, condition, grade, moisture, lot and its real outgoing gate. This stable row id identifies an actual route output; the sole final reference is reference_product_at_declared_handoff. Retain raw output and link the selected final lot without counting it as another final product. Any UUID shown is usable only for its independently confirmed physical state/gate; an incompatible upstream/intermediate state needs a separately verified or explicit unresolved identity. Process: Accepted-product measurement at declared handoff (declared_reference_handoff)
This measurement adds no processing, waste generation or emission. Preserve all real upstream operations and losses; bypass only operations demonstrated absent. Select one actual terminal product lot and cancel its paired internal transfer once when aggregating the system. Do not sum inactive routes, co-products or both source and handoff as accepted final output.
Inputs
Product flows
Accepted actual-route product at the same handoff (actual_route_product_for_handoff)
Measure only accepted product at the existing declared gate. Match one actual terminal source record; internal paired transfer and this reference represent the same event, not two sales. Verify identity for the actual species/state/gate independently; an identifier confirmed only for fresh farm-gate goods cannot represent an incompatible conditioned or independent pack-house state. Missing identity remains explicit and is not resolved by copying an adjacent output UUID.

|---|---|---|---|
allocation_productive_year | perennial orchard | Attribute annual operations directly to the declared productive year; annualize establishment, replanting, and shared perennial infrastructure over documented service life and productive area. | |
allocation_grade_outputs | grading | Use physical subdivision first. When multiple useful grades leave one inseparable batch, report each mass and apply an explicitly justified allocation consistent across the batch; do not classify useful downgraded nuts as waste. | |
allocation_hulls_residues | hulls and residues | Treat as residue without credit when discarded and without economic function; when sold or used as a co-product, disclose destination and apply a reviewed allocation or substitution scenario separately. | |
allocation_shared_assets | shared equipment and storage | Allocate by measured operating time, throughput, occupied area-time, or another causal driver; prevent the same annual or batch burden from entering both orchard and conditioning nodes. | |
allocation_rework | regraded or redried material | Return rework to the producing batch, include additional energy and loss once, and count output only when it reaches the accepted grade. |
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
allocation_residual_precedence | remaining common burden with no specified primary branch | Resolve any study-specific joint-product instruction in this PCR that has no specified primary branch using this precedence; retain an already explicitly prescribed category-specific primary method. First directly assign separable output-specific activities. For the remaining common burden B, use a physical driver d_i only when measured operation or biological-service records demonstrate the causal consumption represented by that driver. A product being weighable, valuable or lower grade alone is insufficient; do not switch arbitrarily between area, time, mass and revenue. For comparable grades receiving the same common handling, measured processed mass is applicable only with the same service demand, state and moisture basis demonstrated. Share a_i=d_i/sum(d_j); B_i=Ba_i. If no defensible causal physical driver exists for that common operation, use gate- and period-matched economic shares a_i=(q_ip_i)/sum(q_j*p_j), with the complete independently intended output set, compatible quantity/price units, currency, representative prices and values before output-specific downstream processing. Missing price or denominator evidence makes the allocated result incomplete, not a zero-priced product or a single-output system. Report shares summing to one and sensitivity to a material alternative; an alternative is not an interchangeable primary result. Waste, retained residues and internal transfers receive no co-product share, while their attributable production/handling burdens remain with the producing saleable route. Retain unallocated physical quantities and mass balances separately. This branch gives no automatic substitution credit; any separately scoped substitution analysis retains the gross inventory and its actual displaced-function evidence. | ghg-protocol-product-standard-2011 |
8. Foreground Data Collection, Calculation, and Quality Rules
Specific input identification before dataset completion
Identify the actual input for this operation from supplier specifications, equipment and primary records. This is a mandatory collection requirement, not an exchange. Before dataset completeness, represent each used material, formulated product, carrier or independently purchased service by one physically specific card with its native quantity/property; confirm a compatible UUID, or retain an explicit unresolved identity and do not claim a fully linked dataset. Do not substitute a conditional example for an unknown actual input, invent a recipe, omit required use or infer zero from missing records. Attribute shared use, reusable assets and inclusive services once; preserve the original stage/period and measured throughput link to final reference output. The former aggregate range is not a component limit or consumption default.

agricultural_nutrient_inputs_specific_input | cp_orchard_inputs | Operation orchard_production_harvest: Record each mineral fertilizer, organic fertilizer and nutrient-bearing amendment in its own concrete product card; preserve product, assay, event, and nutrient basis. Original quantity method: collect every applied product once and calculate declared nutrient quantities |
crop_protection_input_specific_input | cp_orchard_inputs | Operation orchard_production_harvest: Record each actual formulation, active ingredient, concentration, and application event; no generic fixed identity is assigned. Original quantity method: measured formulation quantity by product and event |
packaging_input_specific_input | cp_grading_records | Operation grading_packing: Record the actual sack, liner, carton, crate, pallet, or other declared packaging; foreground records determine the one applicable packaging group and concrete exchange. Original quantity method: measured packaging placed with accepted product; reusable items use documented trip allocation |
Route-specific energy identification requirements
Select energy exchanges from the actual product state, operation, equipment and supply records. The conditional cards below are not a mandatory or exhaustive fuel list. For each requirement, document applicability and the used carrier, supplier, service period, native quantity and allocation; add a separate physically specific card and verify its UUID for any actual input not yet represented. An unidentified input remains an explicit completeness gap, never a zero or a generic energy exchange. Evidence of manual work, ambient drying or a bypass can justify non-use only for the affected operation. Preserve every required operation even when no example card is supplied.
Separate purchased supply from on-site conversion. Link self-generated electricity internally to the foreground generator and count its actual fuel and emissions there once; do not also charge a purchased-electricity supply for the same internal transfer. Likewise do not count supplier-side fuel again with purchased heat. Reconcile shared meters and contractor-included energy against existing cards, with one physical quantity assigned once. Retain source quantities, output throughput, shared-service allocation and excluded post-gate activities. For each carrier, apply period/output attribution once and scale to the declared reference quantity using matched accepted final output in the same product unit; do not normalize an already normalized amount again. Process-native intensities require a measured throughput link to that final output. These requirements do not set a consumption default or certify dataset completeness.

grading_energy_input_identification | cp_grading_records | Actual electric conveying, sorting, weighing and packing inside the gate. Raw activity or stage basis: per 1,000 kg packed nuts. (route-energy-fao) |
Retain raw site, lot, cycle and stage quantities and denominators in each collection protocol. Reconcile stocks, losses, moisture and co-product attribution first, then normalize: normalized exchange = attributable raw exchange × declared reference quantity / accepted hand-off product quantity on the same boundary and measurement basis. Apply perennial-establishment and shared-operation attribution before this normalization. Never set an internal-transfer quantity equal to the final reference quantity. Per declared reference flow means the amount, unit and product state in section 3; the data package must declare its actual route and gate.

chemical_species_mass_accounting | elementary_nutrient_emissions | Final elementary exchanges use the mass of the identified substance and one actual receiving compartment. Keep nutrient/activity ledgers separate: species-specific N2O-N × 44/28 gives N2O, NH3-N × 17/14 gives NH3, nitrate-N × 62/14 gives nitrate, and phosphate-P × 95/31 gives phosphate. If the selected flow is elemental phosphorus instead, report kg P and convert phosphate mass by 31/95 only when that species basis is evidenced. Apply a conversion exactly once only when the method output is on the elemental basis; measured compound mass is not reconverted. Total nutrient losses cannot be assigned to a single species without a supported split, and residual/retained soil nutrient is not an emission. Keep direct/indirect pathway ledgers and avoid repeating a pathway already included in the chosen method or upstream inventory. Factor uncertainty ranges screen factors on their stated basis, not final compound amounts or admissible site emissions. Normalize the attributable compound mass once using the accepted reference quantity and the matched measured output. Unknown activity, identity or compartment remains an evidence gap and blocks a completeness claim. | cp_orchard_emissions; species-specific activity ledger, method pathway and factor basis, matched accepted output | Identity-specific exchanges and reconciled activity records |
Environmental Coverage Calculation Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Formula or rule | Inputs | Output | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
calc_managed_environment_coverage | actual managed-production nodes | For the actual owned managed-production node(s), require an applicability ledger for direct soil N2O, volatilisation/deposition-derived indirect N2O, leaching/runoff-derived indirect N2O, NH3/NOx and nutrient losses, plus actual liming/urea-use CO2. Primary calculation precedence is a representative pathway measurement, then a validated site/national method applicable to the crop, soil and management; otherwise use the compatible 2006 IPCC/2019-refined managed-soil equations and climate/input-specific factor selection for N2O and lime/urea CO2. Retain the exact edition, equation, tier, activity and factor units, climate and management applicability; no universal dose or emission factor is prescribed. Non-soil/protected routes need a method valid for their actual medium; do not force soil factors onto an inapplicable route. Use the same period/field N ledger for synthetic and organic additions, residues, actual relevant mineralisation/organic-soil and excreta pathways; demonstrate absent pathways rather than infer zero. Calculate direct and each indirect component separately, then assign each once to matching existing or new concrete cards; never add a total to its components. Convert N2O-N to molecular N2O by 44/28 once. NH3, NOx and nutrient/pesticide loss require an applicable measured or documented substance/fate model; total N/P or an unexplained balance residual is not a compound release. Keep actual receiving compartments and molecular versus elemental/reporting bases explicit; indirect formation does not remove the same N from the source ledger twice. Include actual local combustion releases separately using fuel-specific combustion-only methods; purchased electricity/heat/services retain upstream coverage once. Add one identity-specific exchange only for a supported release and reuse an existing matching card, with verified UUID or explicit unresolved identity. Missing applicable method/activity/factor/identity blocks completeness; it is not a justified zero. Attribute raw activity/release totals and normalize once to the matched accepted reference output. | cp_phase1_environment_coverage | attributed native environmental quantities per matched final reference | review-ipcc-soils-2019 |

allocation_productive_year | perennial orchard | Attribute annual operations directly to the declared productive year; annualize establishment, replanting, and shared perennial infrastructure over documented service life and productive area. | |
allocation_grade_outputs | grading | Use physical subdivision first. When multiple useful grades leave one inseparable batch, report each mass and apply an explicitly justified allocation consistent across the batch; do not classify useful downgraded nuts as waste. | |
allocation_hulls_residues | hulls and residues | Treat as residue without credit when discarded and without economic function; when sold or used as a co-product, disclose destination and apply a reviewed allocation or substitution scenario separately. | |
allocation_shared_assets | shared equipment and storage | Allocate by measured operating time, throughput, occupied area-time, or another causal driver; prevent the same annual or batch burden from entering both orchard and conditioning nodes. | |
allocation_rework | regraded or redried material | Return rework to the producing batch, include additional energy and loss once, and count output only when it reaches the accepted grade. | |
allocation_residual_precedence | remaining common burden with no specified primary branch | Resolve any study-specific joint-product instruction in this PCR that has no specified primary branch using this precedence; retain an already explicitly prescribed category-specific primary method. Share a_i=d_i/sum(d_j); B_i=B*a_i. If no defensible causal physical driver exists for that common operation, use gate- and period-matched economic shares a_i=(q_i*p_i)/sum(q_j*p_j), with the complete independently intended output set, compatible quantity/price units, currency, representative prices and values before output-specific downstream processing.

|---|---|---|---|
validate_residual_identity | reference product | Reject a dataset that does not name one cultivated species and demonstrate that it is not a named CPC nut leaf, wild nut, groundnut, shelled kernel, or mixed lot. | |
validate_shell_state | reference product | Reject when hard-shell integrity, outer-hull state, moisture basis, grade, or terminal gate is missing or internally inconsistent. | |
validate_reference_mass | terminal output | Accepted reference output shall equal 1,000 kg and shall exclude downgraded, rejected, and rework material not yet accepted. | |
validate_route_activation | conditional nodes | Hulling, drying, grading, packing, and their inputs/emissions shall be zero or absent when inactive; when active, matched batch records are required. | |
validate_nutrient_binding | orchard nutrients | Verify each actual exchange against its concrete flow UUID, physical state, property and unit; preserve explicit unresolved identities when confirmation is unavailable. | |
validate_mass_balance | harvest, conditioning, grading | Check accepted, downgraded, rejected, hull, residue, and moisture-loss terms against incoming mass and disclose closure error. | |
validate_ranges | all inventory cards | Flag values outside a range for review; provisional ranges are screens and shall not replace foreground evidence or act as production limits. | |
validate_uuid_use | fixed bindings | Confirm UUID, flow type, property, category, state, and gate; resolve parameterized cards to verified concrete UUIDs before process publication. | |
validate_multi_period | perennial burdens | Reject double attribution of establishment, replacement, or shared infrastructure across harvest years. | |
validate_final_handoff_bypass | selected actual route and all conditional bypass states | Check both presence and absence of optional conditioning/packing/storage against actual records: exactly one required handoff reference persists, its source product/state/gate matches Section 3, active physical rows retain measured throughput, and inactive physical activities add no exchange. Require raw accepted mass, upstream closure, unique transfer pairing and single final normalization; an unexplained state or missing identity is not an assumed valid branch. | declared-handoff-measurement-definition |
