1. Scope and Applicability
This PCR covers the foreground production of fresh currants and gooseberries from a managed perennial berry stand through harvest and the farm-gate hand-off of marketable fresh fruit. It applies to open-field production and to protected production only when the protected route, infrastructure attribution, and activity records are explicitly declared. It covers cultivation management, crop inputs, harvest, primary conditioning, grading, and optional on-farm packing or short-term cooling when those activities are controlled and recorded by the foreground operator.
The PCR is used for a crop-year or reporting-period foreground data package normalized to net marketable fruit at farm gate. A data package shall identify the species or product type (for example, currant or gooseberry), cultivar or variety, geography, production system, crop year, harvested state, grade, and whether on-farm washing, cooling, or packing is included.
This PCR excludes processed, frozen, dried, juiced, fermented, preserved, or otherwise transformed berry products; nursery planting-stock production; retail distribution and consumer use; and downstream processing of downgraded fruit. Transport after the declared farm-gate hand-off is outside the default boundary. Animal products, leaves, prunings, and other non-fruit outputs are outside the reference product unless a documented co-product route is declared.
2. Product Category Identity

| covered_products | Fresh currants and gooseberries produced by managed perennial berry cultivation and delivered as marketable fruit at farm gate, in bulk or in a declared package |
| excluded_products | Processed, frozen, dried, juiced, fermented, preserved, or otherwise transformed fruit; nursery planting stock; retail-ready products with unreported downstream operations; leaves and prunings unless separately declared as co-products |
| representative_product | Marketable fresh currants or gooseberries at farm-gate dispatch |
| production_route | Perennial shrub establishment and management, irrigation and nutrient management where applicable, crop protection, harvest, primary conditioning, grading, and conditional on-farm packing or short-term cooling |
| market_state | Fresh, marketable, graded fruit at the declared farm-gate hand-off; bulk or packaged state must be disclosed |
3. Reference Flow
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| What | Marketable fresh currants or gooseberries dispatched at the farm-gate hand-off |
| How much | 1 kg net marketable fruit, after declared harvest and conditioning rejects and losses are separated |
| How well | Product identity, cultivar or variety, maturity or harvest grade, harvested condition, packaging state, and production claims are declared; mass is measured at the declared dispatch condition |
| How long or cycle | One declared crop year or reporting period; perennial stand age, productive phase, and establishment or replacement treatment are disclosed |
| reference_flow_link | reference_product_at_declared_handoff |

| Reference unit group | Units of mass 93a60a57-a4c8-11da-a746-0800200c9a66 |
| Reference unit | kg |
| Required qualifiers | species or product type; cultivar or variety; geography; production system; crop year; stand age or productive phase; market grade or maturity; harvested product state; bulk or package state; inclusion of washing, cooling, grading, and packing; organic or other production claim; yield and allocation basis |
When constructing a foreground data package, the items listed in Required qualifiers must be declared in dataset metadata, process notes, reference flow comment, product description, or an equivalent data package field. Missing required qualifiers make the reference flow definition incomplete for that data package.
The sole reference output is reference_product_at_declared_handoff at declared_reference_handoff, a mandatory measurement of the actual accepted product at the already declared gate. Process p_currant_gooseberry_conditioning remains conditional: omission of its physical activities does not remove this reference. Select the actual last included product handoff and record its process/output id; accept only the same species, physical state, grade, moisture basis and gate as Section 3. The prior marketable_farm_gate_fruit row is the measured output of its actual operation when active, not an additional final sale. No bypass creates processing, a yield assumption, an extra burden or a change of product boundary.
4. Measurement and Unit Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Required property | Required unit | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
measurement_reference_mass | reference product and terminal marketable output | Mass | kg | Measure net marketable fruit at the declared farm-gate condition. Retain gross harvested mass, rejects, losses, and any moisture or condition adjustment separately; do not silently replace the farm-gate basis with a dry-matter basis. |
measurement_crop_cycle_basis | cultivation inputs, harvest, residues, and emissions | Mass, area, or volume as applicable | kg; ha; m3; L; kWh | Link each value to the same declared crop year or reporting period and to the represented fields or production units. Normalize to the net marketable reference output only after the crop-year mass balance is closed. |
measurement_nutrient_basis | fertilizer and soil-amendment input | Mass and elemental nutrient content | kg product; kg N; kg P; kg K or declared equivalent | Record the actual product used and its product mass. Where nutrient content is available, record N, P, and K on the supplier or laboratory reporting basis without merging products; disclose whether P or K is elemental or an oxide-equivalent basis. |
measurement_water_energy | irrigation, process water, fuel, and electricity | Volume, mass, or energy | m3; L; kg; kWh or MJ | Use meter, invoice, equipment, or contractor records for the declared site and operation. Convert units only with a documented conversion and retain the original record basis. |
measurement_output_reconciliation | harvest and primary conditioning outputs | Mass | kg | Reconcile incoming or harvested fruit to marketable output, declared co-products, rejects, spoilage, and measured losses within the stated measurement uncertainty. |
5. System Boundary
Boundary Abstraction
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| declared_starting_condition | A declared perennial currant or gooseberry stand and its represented fields or production units at the beginning of the crop-year reporting period; establishment or replacement inputs are included when they occur in the period or are annualized from documented records |
| starting_condition_role | Foreground production starting condition for a crop-year dataset; the stand, land occupation, production system, and productive phase must be identified |
| product_classification_scope | Fresh currants and gooseberries from managed cultivation, harvest, and optional primary conditioning through the farm-gate hand-off |
| recursive_input_rule | A same-category fruit input used within the foreground route is recorded as an internal product transfer or as an upstream secondary dataset with its origin disclosed; do not recursively instantiate this PCR for the same product flow |
| upstream_dataset_requirement | Use declared upstream datasets for planting material, fertilizers and soil amendments, crop-protection products, energy carriers, water supply, packaging, and any contracted service. The PCR does not recreate upstream production processes. |
| disclosure | The data package must disclose geography, field or unit roster, crop year, stand age or productive phase, production system, irrigation source, nutrient and crop-protection practice, harvest and grading route, cooling or washing, package state, residue fate, co-product route, and farm-gate hand-off. |
Boundary Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
boundary_crop_year | cultivation and managed production | Include crop management inputs and outputs for the declared crop year or reporting period and link them to the represented fields or production units. | fao-gaps-family-agriculture-2007 |
boundary_perennial_stand | perennial stand establishment and replacement | Include orchard care and direct crop emissions for the declared production year. Include the attributable historical establishment, immature-phase and renewal contribution for the represented stand even when no new event occurs this year. The stated attribution records are required evidence, not a condition allowing omission: missing amounts, age/lifetime or output history remain an explicit completeness gap, never zero or an automatic exclusion. Retain the original events and apply the declared period/output method once; preserve any separately justified study exclusion. | osu-currants-gooseberries-production |
boundary_harvest_hand_off | harvest and farm-gate output | End the default foreground boundary at the declared farm-gate hand-off of marketable fresh fruit. Transport after that hand-off and downstream processing are excluded unless explicitly added as a separate scope. | fao-codex-fresh-produce-primary-production |
boundary_conditional_conditioning | washing, grading, packing, and short-term cooling | Include actual conditioning, packing and cooling needed before the declared farm-gate handoff whether performed by the operator or a contractor. Foreground operations use matched activity/output/waste records; already supplied services retain compatible upstream datasets once. Missing records leave a completeness gap and do not move a pre-gate activity outside the product-system boundary. Operations genuinely after the declared gate remain downstream. | fao-codex-fresh-produce-primary-production |
boundary_upstream_inputs | purchased inputs and services | Represent upstream production of purchased inputs with declared secondary datasets or supplier records and do not double count their upstream activities in the foreground inventory. | fao-gaps-family-agriculture-2007 |

Urea fertilizer (p_currant_gooseberry_management_agricultural_nutrient_inputs_urea)
Collection scope and applicability for p_currant_gooseberry_management_agricultural_nutrient_inputs. The following concrete identities have separate cards and apply only when use or generation is evidenced inside the original process scope. They are not mandatory inputs or a default recipe. Document non-use; missing records are not zero. Add a separate concrete card for any other actual material instead of substituting one of these names or UUIDs. Preserve attribution and boundaries and avoid double counting components included in outsourced services.
Collect each fertilizer product separately. Preserve each actual product identity, quantity, formulation, nutrient composition, application event, and allocation; do not count a compound product more than once. Raw activity or stage basis: Per 1 kg net marketable fruit output, with nutrient totals reported separately.

The final exchange is kg NO3-. Keep species-specific elemental-N activity and any N-based factor/range in a separate calculation ledger. Convert that species-specific N mass by 62/14 exactly once before normalization; never reconvert compound mass or apply an N-based range directly to compound mass. A total nitrogen-loss pool is not this species without a supported split. Retain the actual receiving compartment and method boundaries; unknown identity or activity is not zero.

Wooden crate (packaging_materials_wood_crate)
Collection scope and applicability for packaging_materials.
Packaging is recorded when the foreground operator supplies or controls packages, crates, trays, bags, or other materials used to protect or present the fruit before farm-gate dispatch. The concrete package family must be declared before identity resolution. Raw activity or stage basis: Per 1 kg net marketable fruit output.
Confirm identity, grade, state and unit from equipment, supplier and contemporaneous measurements; the UUID remains unverified. Record composition, net mass, reuse cycles and return losses; attribute reusable items by actual use and separate packaging from product mass. Keep distinct treatment destinations separate without assuming recycling credits.

Marketable fresh currants and gooseberries at farm gate (marketable_farm_gate_fruit)
Record the measured accepted output of p_currant_gooseberry_conditioning only when that operation actually occurs. Preserve species, condition, grade, moisture, lot and its real outgoing gate. This stable row id identifies an actual route output; the sole final reference is reference_product_at_declared_handoff. Retain raw output and link the selected final lot without counting it as another final product. Any UUID shown is usable only for its independently confirmed physical state/gate; an incompatible upstream/intermediate state needs a separately verified or explicit unresolved identity. Preserve the original stage measurement and collection records.

Process: Accepted-product measurement at declared handoff (declared_reference_handoff)
This measurement adds no processing, waste generation or emission. Preserve all real upstream operations and losses; bypass only operations demonstrated absent. Select one actual terminal product lot and cancel its paired internal transfer once when aggregating the system. Do not sum inactive routes, co-products or both source and handoff as accepted final output.

Accepted actual-route product at the same handoff (actual_route_product_for_handoff)
Measure only accepted product at the existing declared gate. Match one actual terminal source record; internal paired transfer and this reference represent the same event, not two sales. Verify identity for the actual species/state/gate independently; an identifier confirmed only for fresh farm-gate goods cannot represent an incompatible conditioned or independent pack-house state. 7. Allocation and Co-product Handling
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
allocation_subdivision_first | managed production, harvest, and conditioning | Prefer separate field, harvest, grading, packing, and cooling records so shared burdens can be assigned to measured product states before applying an allocation rule. | iso-14044-2006 |
allocation_mass_balance | fruit, downgraded fruit, rejects, and losses | Close the matched fruit mass balance first. Treat a destination with documented intended use and positive transfer as a co-product; treat untransferred or inedible material according to its recorded waste or residue fate. | mass-balance-identity |
allocation_perennial_output | shared perennial stand inputs | Allocate shared stand inputs to declared marketable product and documented co-products using the reviewed, disclosed basis for the dataset. Do not substitute an undocumented economic or mass basis. | iso-14044-2006 |
allocation_package_and_cooling | optional packing and cooling | Attribute package and cooling activity to the matched fruit lot or product state that receives the service; do not spread activity to excluded downstream products. | fao-codex-fresh-produce-primary-production |
Concrete cards do not inherit numerical ranges from the former aggregate card. Determine quantities from original records, stock/meter reconciliation and the declared reference flow; no default quantity or numeric screen is supplied without evidence matching the identity, unit, period and boundary. Missing range evidence is a quality disclosure, not zero use or proof of completeness.
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
allocation_residual_precedence | remaining common burden with no specified primary branch | Resolve any study-specific joint-product instruction in this PCR that has no specified primary branch using this precedence; retain an already explicitly prescribed category-specific primary method. First directly assign separable output-specific activities. For the remaining common burden B, use a physical driver d_i only when measured operation or biological-service records demonstrate the causal consumption represented by that driver. A product being weighable, valuable or lower grade alone is insufficient; do not switch arbitrarily between area, time, mass and revenue. For comparable grades receiving the same common handling, measured processed mass is applicable only with the same service demand, state and moisture basis demonstrated. Share a_i=d_i/sum(d_j); B_i=Ba_i. If no defensible causal physical driver exists for that common operation, use gate- and period-matched economic shares a_i=(q_ip_i)/sum(q_j*p_j), with the complete independently intended output set, compatible quantity/price units, currency, representative prices and values before output-specific downstream processing. Missing price or denominator evidence makes the allocated result incomplete, not a zero-priced product or a single-output system. Report shares summing to one and sensitivity to a material alternative; an alternative is not an interchangeable primary result. Waste, retained residues and internal transfers receive no co-product share, while their attributable production/handling burdens remain with the producing saleable route. Retain unallocated physical quantities and mass balances separately. This branch gives no automatic substitution credit; any separately scoped substitution analysis retains the gross inventory and its actual displaced-function evidence. | ghg-protocol-product-standard-2011 |
8. Foreground Data Collection, Calculation, and Quality Rules
Specific input identification before dataset completion
Identify the actual input for this operation from supplier specifications, equipment and primary records. This is a mandatory collection requirement, not an exchange. Before dataset completeness, represent each used material, formulated product, carrier or independently purchased service by one physically specific card with its native quantity/property; confirm a compatible UUID, or retain an explicit unresolved identity and do not claim a fully linked dataset. Do not substitute a conditional example for an unknown actual input, invent a recipe, omit required use or infer zero from missing records. Attribute shared use, reusable assets and inclusive services once; preserve the original stage/period and measured throughput link to final reference output. The former aggregate range is not a component limit or consumption default.

crop_protection_products_specific_input | cp_crop_protection_records | Operation p_currant_gooseberry_management: Crop-protection products cross the boundary when they are purchased, mixed, applied, or otherwise used for the represented crop cycle. Application timing and pre-harvest interval records are retained. Original quantity method: Actual formulation or active-ingredient quantity by application event; retain product identity and dose basis |
mobile_machinery_fuel_specific_input | cp_field_energy_records | Operation p_currant_gooseberry_management: Fuel is recorded for tractors, sprayers, mowers, harvest aids, and other mobile machinery operated within the declared foreground route. Original quantity method: Metered, invoiced, or contractor-attributed fuel use for represented field operations |
Retain raw site, lot, cycle and stage quantities and denominators in each collection protocol. Reconcile stocks, losses, moisture and co-product attribution first, then normalize: normalized exchange = attributable raw exchange × declared reference quantity / accepted hand-off product quantity on the same boundary and measurement basis. Apply perennial-establishment and shared-operation attribution before this normalization. Never set an internal-transfer quantity equal to the final reference quantity. Per declared reference flow means the amount, unit and product state in section 3; the data package must declare its actual route and gate.

chemical_species_mass_accounting | elementary_nutrient_emissions | Final elementary exchanges use the mass of the identified substance and one actual receiving compartment. Keep nutrient/activity ledgers separate: species-specific N2O-N × 44/28 gives N2O, NH3-N × 17/14 gives NH3, nitrate-N × 62/14 gives nitrate, and phosphate-P × 95/31 gives phosphate. If the selected flow is elemental phosphorus instead, report kg P and convert phosphate mass by 31/95 only when that species basis is evidenced. Apply a conversion exactly once only when the method output is on the elemental basis; measured compound mass is not reconverted. Total nutrient losses cannot be assigned to a single species without a supported split, and residual/retained soil nutrient is not an emission. Keep direct/indirect pathway ledgers and avoid repeating a pathway already included in the chosen method or upstream inventory. Factor uncertainty ranges screen factors on their stated basis, not final compound amounts or admissible site emissions. Normalize the attributable compound mass once using the accepted reference quantity and the matched measured output. Unknown activity, identity or compartment remains an evidence gap and blocks a completeness claim. | cp_nutrient_and_soil_amendment_records; species-specific activity ledger, method pathway and factor basis, matched accepted output | Identity-specific exchanges and reconciled activity records |

calc_final_handoff_normalization | all foreground quantities and actual route outputs | Let R be positive measured accepted final mass in kg for one matched species/state/grade/gate/period, excluding tare, rejects, co-products and held stock. Physical ledger = raw physical quantity/R * 1 kg, without burden-allocation scaling. Attributable inventory contribution = attributable raw quantity/R * 1 kg, preserving native numerator units and the existing output/period attribution. A local intensity q_i=Q_i/O_i first reconstructs Q_i=q_iactual linked O_i; do not divide by R again after final normalization. Both handoff sides are the same measured event R/R1 kg, not another physical yield. Include only actual active operations; record and substantiate bypass. Missing/nonpositive R or an unlinked terminal record blocks a normalized complete result, not zero. Preserve original stage data and cancel paired internal transfers once. | cp_declared_reference_handoff; original linked collection protocols | native quantities per declared final reference | declared-handoff-measurement-definition |

|---|---|---|---|
validate_final_handoff_bypass | selected actual route and all conditional bypass states | Check both presence and absence of optional conditioning/packing/storage against actual records: exactly one required handoff reference persists, its source product/state/gate matches Section 3, active physical rows retain measured throughput, and inactive physical activities add no exchange. Require raw accepted mass, upstream closure, unique transfer pairing and single final normalization; an unexplained state or missing identity is not an assumed valid branch. | declared-handoff-measurement-definition |

System boundary rules · 5

Allocation rules · 6
| Rule ID | Applies to | Rule | Source IDs |
Do not substitute an undocumented economic or mass basis. | iso-14044-2006 |
allocation_package_and_cooling | optional packing and cooling | Attribute package and cooling activity to the matched fruit lot or product state that receives the service; do not spread activity to excluded downstream products. | fao-codex-fresh-produce-primary-production |
allocation_rule_5 | foreground_burden_allocation | Concrete cards do not inherit numerical ranges from the former aggregate card. Determine quantities from original records, stock/meter reconciliation and the declared reference flow; no default quantity or numeric screen is supplied without evidence matching the identity, unit, period and boundary. Missing range evidence is a quality disclosure, not zero use or proof of completeness. | |
allocation_residual_precedence | remaining common burden with no specified primary branch | Resolve any study-specific joint-product instruction in this PCR that has no specified primary branch using this precedence; retain an already explicitly prescribed category-specific primary method. Share a_i=d_i/sum(d_j); B_i=B*a_i. If no defensible causal physical driver exists for that common operation, use gate- and period-matched economic shares a_i=(q_i*p_i)/sum(q_j*p_j), with the complete independently intended output set, compatible quantity/price units, currency, representative prices and values before output-specific downstream processing.
