Classification mapping

1. Scope and Applicability
This PCR covers open-field or comparable soil-based production of fresh headed cabbages, from the declared planting material at the farm boundary through managed cultivation, harvest, trimming, field sorting, and hand-off of saleable fresh cabbage at the farm gate. Purchased planting material, fertilizers, crop-protection products, water, and energy enter as upstream product inputs. Nursery production before purchased planting material, protected cultivation with materially different infrastructure or climate control, off-farm packing, cold storage, distribution, processing, retail, cooking, and end-of-life are outside the default boundary unless explicitly added as separate processes.
The category includes headed cabbages represented by CPC 3.0 class 01212. It does not cover cauliflower, broccoli, kohlrabi, leafy greens classified outside 01212, fermented or otherwise processed cabbage products, or seed production.
2. Product Category Identity
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| canonical_pcr_id | pcr.agriculture-forestry-and-fishery-products.products-of-agriculture-horticulture-and-market-gardening.cabbages |
| classification_refs | CPC 3.0: 01212 Cabbages; mapping relation: exact |
| covered_products | Fresh headed cabbages harvested for food markets, including green, red, white, and savoy market forms when classified as CPC 01212 |
| excluded_products | Cauliflower; broccoli; kohlrabi; non-headed leafy vegetables; cabbage seed; fermented, preserved, frozen, dried, or otherwise processed cabbage |
| representative_product | Fresh marketable cabbage head |
| production_route | Soil-based managed cultivation followed by harvest, trimming, and field sorting |
| market_state | Fresh, intact or minimally trimmed cabbage at farm gate; packaging and cooling state declared separately |
3. Reference Flow
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| What | Fresh marketable cabbage at the declared farm-gate hand-off |
| How much | 1 kg |
| How well | Saleable heads meeting the producer's declared variety, maturity, trimming, defect, and packaging specification |
| How long or cycle | One declared cabbage crop cycle, normalized to delivered saleable mass |
| reference_flow_link | fresh_cabbage_output |
| Field | Value |

| Reference flow property | Mass 93a60a56-a3c8-11da-a746-0800200b9a66 |
| Reference unit group | Units of mass 93a60a57-a4c8-11da-a746-0800200c9a66 |
| Reference unit | kg |
| Required qualifiers | cabbage type or variety; production geography; cultivation system; harvest maturity; trimming state; moisture basis; packaging state; farm-gate hand-off |
When constructing a foreground data package, the items listed in Required qualifiers must be declared in dataset metadata, process notes, reference flow comment, product description, or an equivalent data package field. Missing required qualifiers make the reference flow definition incomplete for that data package.
4. Measurement and Unit Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Required property | Required unit | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
reference_mass | Fresh cabbage reference product and all cabbage product or residue mass rows | Mass 93a60a56-a3c8-11da-a746-0800200b9a66 | kg | Report wet mass at the declared farm-gate state; disclose any dry-matter conversion and measured moisture basis. |

water_volume_basis | Irrigation water supplied to cultivation | Volume | m3 | Record water delivered to the field and distinguish supplied water from natural precipitation. |
land_occupation_basis | Occupied agricultural land | Area-time | m2*a | Calculate occupied area multiplied by occupation duration and normalize it to the declared crop cycle. |
nitrous_oxide_basis | Managed-soil nitrous oxide emission | Mass 93a60a56-a3c8-11da-a746-0800200b9a66 | kg N2O | Final elementary exchange is kg molecular N2O. Retain any model result in kg N2O-N as a separate intermediate and multiply by 44/28 exactly once before final normalization; already molecular mass is not reconverted. Use the same direct/indirect pathway ledger as cp_soil_emissions; downstream preference cannot change the substance basis of this card. |

| recursive_input_rule | Any cabbage product re-entering the system as planting or market input is recorded at its actual hand-off state and linked to a separate upstream dataset rather than recursively reproducing this PCR boundary. |
| upstream_dataset_requirement | Use upstream datasets for planting material, nutrient products, crop-protection products, supplied water, energy carriers, packaging, and any contracted service crossing the boundary. |

Urea fertilizer (field_cultivation_agricultural_nutrient_inputs_urea)
Collection scope and applicability for field_cultivation_agricultural_nutrient_inputs. The following concrete identities have separate cards and apply only when use or generation is evidenced inside the original process scope. They are not mandatory inputs or a default recipe. Document non-use; missing records are not zero. Add a separate concrete card for any other actual material instead of substituting one of these names or UUIDs. Preserve attribution and boundaries and avoid double counting components included in outsourced services.
Collect each fertilizer product separately. Preserve each actual product identity, quantity, formulation, nutrient composition, application event, and allocation; do not count a compound product more than once. Raw activity or stage basis: per ha planted cabbage crop per crop cycle.
Confirm identity, grade, state and unit from equipment, supplier and contemporaneous measurements; the product UUID does not establish actual use or upstream-provider compatibility. Count physical product mass once and retain moisture, N/P/K composition and application events; nutrient quantities are calculated attributes, not additional purchases of the same product. Give unlisted compound and organic fertilizers separate cards identified by formulation or feedstock.

7. Allocation and Co-product Handling
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
allocation_subdivide_first | Cultivation and harvest processes | Use process subdivision and mass reconciliation before allocation; do not allocate between an internal standing-crop hand-off and the same crop after harvest. | fao-horticultural-marketing |
allocation_residue_classification | Outer leaves and rejected heads | Classify field-returned leaves as residues and off-site rejected heads by actual destination; do not treat either as an intended co-product unless evidence shows a deliberate product function and market hand-off. | ipcc-2019-managed-soils; fao-postharvest-loss-manual |
allocation_intended_coproduct | Any additional revenue-bearing intended output | If subdivision cannot isolate an additional intended output, apply economic allocation using documented farm-gate revenues for the same reporting period and disclose prices, currency, period, and sensitivity. |
Concrete cards do not inherit numerical ranges from the former aggregate card. Determine quantities from original records, stock/meter reconciliation and the declared reference flow; no default quantity or numeric screen is supplied without evidence matching the identity, unit, period and boundary. Missing range evidence is a quality disclosure, not zero use or proof of completeness.
8. Foreground Data Collection, Calculation, and Quality Rules
Route-specific energy identification requirements
Select energy exchanges from the actual product state, operation, equipment and supply records. The conditional cards below are not a mandatory or exhaustive fuel list. For each requirement, document applicability and the used carrier, supplier, service period, native quantity and allocation; add a separate physically specific card and verify its UUID for any actual input not yet represented. An unidentified input remains an explicit completeness gap, never a zero or a generic energy exchange. Evidence of manual work, ambient drying or a bypass can justify non-use only for the affected operation. Preserve every required operation even when no example card is supplied.
Separate purchased supply from on-site conversion. Link self-generated electricity internally to the foreground generator and count its actual fuel and emissions there once; do not also charge a purchased-electricity supply for the same internal transfer. Likewise do not count supplier-side fuel again with purchased heat. Reconcile shared meters and contractor-included energy against existing cards, with one physical quantity assigned once. Retain source quantities, output throughput, shared-service allocation and excluded post-gate activities. For each carrier, apply period/output attribution once and scale to the declared reference quantity using matched accepted final output in the same product unit; do not normalize an already normalized amount again. Process-native intensities require a measured throughput link to that final output. These requirements do not set a consumption default or certify dataset completeness.

field_operation_energy_identification | cp_field_energy | Actual diesel tractor operations for tillage, planting, nutrient application, crop protection and field movement. Irrigation pumping is separately assessed from its actual prime mover and must not be silently assigned to diesel. Raw activity or stage basis: per ha planted cabbage crop per crop cycle. (route-energy-fao) |
Retain raw site, lot, cycle and stage quantities and denominators in each collection protocol. Reconcile stocks, losses, moisture and co-product attribution first, then normalize: normalized exchange = attributable raw exchange × declared reference quantity / accepted hand-off product quantity on the same boundary and measurement basis. Apply perennial-establishment and shared-operation attribution before this normalization. Never set an internal-transfer quantity equal to the final reference quantity. Per declared reference flow means the amount, unit and product state in section 3; the data package must declare its actual route and gate.

cp_cultivation_inputs | field_cultivation | planting material, nutrient products, irrigation water, crop-protection products | purchase, application, meter, and field-operation records | product identity; lot; quantity; composition; active ingredient; application date; treated area; delivered water | Reconcile invoices, application logs, composition labels, irrigation meters, and field logs; Raw aggregation and attribution: Sum by physical identity and convert with documented composition; retain zero-use declarations crop_protection_inputs_specific_input: Crop-protection inputs cross the boundary as the actual herbicide, insecticide, fungicide, or other active ingredients applied. Foreground records must retain each physical identity and formulated product separately. Calculate each active ingredient from formulated-product quantity and composition; do not aggregate unlike substances into one final exchange. This is a mandatory specific-input collection requirement, not a selected exchange. Identify every actual formulation, carrier or independently supplied service from primary records, with physical identity, state, native quantity and supplier specifications. Create a separate concrete card for each actual input before dataset completeness; verify a compatible UUID or explicitly retain its unresolved identity. Product mass and contained active-substance mass are different ledgers: convert only using documented composition and never count both as two purchases. Finished feed and separately added ingredients must not duplicate its recipe. Distinguish fuel purchase, purchased electricity/heat and inclusive machinery services; charge only their actual boundaries once. Preserve the original operation, period, attribution and final-output normalization. Missing identity or records do not establish zero use; no universal component range or invented recipe is supplied. codex-fresh-produce-hygiene | item; kg product; kg nutrient; kg active ingredient; m3 | Each delivery and application | Complete crop cycle | Each field and crop cycle | per declared reference flow | invoices; labels; calibration records; application logs; meter readings |

(route-energy-fao) Verify actual use, equipment and supply for each applicable input; create one specific exchange per actual carrier before dataset completeness. cabbage_planting_material_identity_and_fate | field_cultivation | For the original cabbage_planting_material collection role at this operation, identify the actual physical form, species/material, composition, state and supply/treatment boundary before creating exchanges. Each seed lot, transplant, crown, cutting, larval stage, formulation, coating, preservative or separated residue actually used/generated requires its own concrete card where relevant to this role; these examples are alternatives, not a required recipe. Retain existing collection records and route-specific source evidence. Count-based planting records require measured or supplier-supported mass-per-unit when matched to a mass-based provider; retain count and mass as linked attributes rather than two purchases. Do not merge separate husk/shell or separate agents. A real mixed stream requires composition and recipient evidence and is counted once. Before completeness, record every applicable amount and native unit, link a compatible verified UUID or explicitly unresolved identity, preserve stock/return attribution, and normalize the attributable raw quantity once to the accepted reference output. Missing records are not zero; aggregate ranges are not individual-input defaults. | cp_cultivation_inputs | Identity-specific exchanges and reconciled activity records | |
chemical_species_mass_accounting | elementary_nutrient_emissions | Final elementary exchanges use the mass of the identified substance and one actual receiving compartment. Keep nutrient/activity ledgers separate: species-specific N2O-N × 44/28 gives N2O, NH3-N × 17/14 gives NH3, nitrate-N × 62/14 gives nitrate, and phosphate-P × 95/31 gives phosphate. If the selected flow is elemental phosphorus instead, report kg P and convert phosphate mass by 31/95 only when that species basis is evidenced. Apply a conversion exactly once only when the method output is on the elemental basis; measured compound mass is not reconverted. Total nutrient losses cannot be assigned to a single species without a supported split, and residual/retained soil nutrient is not an emission. Keep direct/indirect pathway ledgers and avoid repeating a pathway already included in the chosen method or upstream inventory. Factor uncertainty ranges screen factors on their stated basis, not final compound amounts or admissible site emissions. Normalize the attributable compound mass once using the accepted reference quantity and the matched measured output. Unknown activity, identity or compartment remains an evidence gap and blocks a completeness claim. | cp_soil_emissions; species-specific activity ledger, method pathway and factor basis, matched accepted output | Identity-specific exchanges and reconciled activity records |
