Classification mapping
Source
1. Scope and Applicability
This PCR covers whole, unprocessed Sesamum indicum grain from crop establishment through transfer at the farm gate. It includes separately measured field production, harvest and threshing, first cleaning, conditional moisture stabilization and grading. Rainfed and irrigated cultivation are alternative implementations of managed crop production. Shattering varieties can require cutting, field drying and manual threshing; shatter-resistant varieties permit direct combine harvesting. Record the chosen route, associated energy and seed loss for each field and run. Oil extraction, dehulling, roasting and milling are downstream. The fixed platform flow is harvested grain; it is not a verified planting-seed output. [ncstate-sesame-2026; tamu-sesame-2007]
2. Product Category Identity
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| canonical_pcr_id | pcr.agriculture-forestry-and-fishery-products.products-of-agriculture-horticulture-and-market-gardening.sesame-seed |
| classification_refs | CPC 3.0 01444; narrower grain route; mapping relation: narrower |
| covered_products | Whole sesame commodity grain, with declared color and market grade |
| excluded_products | Any sesame seed produced or sold for sowing, regardless of certification; dehulled, roasted or ground seed; oil and meal |
| representative_product | Whole harvested and first-cleaned sesame grain |
| production_route | Annual managed sesame crop; rainfed or irrigated; manual/field-thresh or direct-combine harvest; first cleaning and conditional drying |
| market_state | Unprocessed whole grain at farm gate, with measured moisture, foreign matter and broken-seed state |
The narrower mapping reflects the verified grain flow. A planting-seed route requires a separately verified output identity and method.
3. Reference Flow
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| What | Whole harvested sesame grain accepted at the farm gate |
| How much | 1 kg net seed mass |
| How well | Declare variety, color, grade, moisture, foreign matter and broken-seed fractions |

|---|---|---|---|---|
net_gate_mass | Reference output | Mass 93a60a56-a3c8-11da-a746-0800200b9a66 | kg | Use weighed accepted whole-seed mass at actual gate moisture; never silently substitute dry matter. |
mass_balance | Harvest, conditioning and gate | Mass 93a60a56-a3c8-11da-a746-0800200b9a66 | kg | Reconcile captured seed to accepted, downgraded, rejected and conditioning loss, accounting for moisture change; report field loss separately before capture. |

5. System Boundary
Boundary Abstraction
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| declared_starting_condition | Field before sesame sowing, with previous crop and land condition disclosed; purchased seed and inputs enter with independent upstream burdens. |
| starting_condition_role | Declared crop-cycle starting point, not a zero-impact input. |
| product_classification_scope | Whole commodity sesame grain only. |
| recursive_input_rule | Sown sesame is a measured input; do not feed the gate output into its own crop model. Resolve the sowing seed to an independent upstream dataset or disclose the gap. |
| upstream_dataset_requirement | Link seed, fertilizers, protection products, fuel, electricity and purchased services to independent upstream datasets where used. |
| disclosure | Field, season, water regime, cultivar trait, harvest route, pre-gate handling, gate location, rejection path and residue disposition. |
Boundary Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
crop_boundary | Field to gate | Include actual sowing, crop management, harvest, first cleaning, grading and any pre-gate drying, including contracted pre-gate work. | ncstate-sesame-2026; tamu-sesame-2007 |
capture_boundary | Standing mature crop | Separate harvest from growth: capsule opening, hand or header capture, and threshing determine recovered mass and loss. | ncstate-sesame-2026 |
downstream_boundary | After gate | Exclude post-gate transport, food processing, oil pressing, dehulling and roasting. | tamu-sesame-2007 |
6. Process Inventory Structure
Process Map
| process_id | process_name | inclusion | inclusion_condition | role | quantitative_reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
crop_management | Managed sesame crop | required | Every field/cycle, rainfed or irrigated | Grow mature capsules; irrigation adds water and pumping records | Field-cycle inputs per accepted kg |
harvest_thresh | Seed capture and threshing | required | Manual/field-thresh or direct combine according to cultivar and practice | Capture raw seed; measure shattering and equipment loss | Captured kg by field/run |
first_clean_dry | First cleaning and stabilization | conditional | Include actual cleaning or drying; declare bypass otherwise | Remove chaff and foreign matter; stabilize high-moisture seed | Weighed input/output and energy by pass |
grade_gate | Grade and farm-gate release | required | Every transferred lot | Split accepted, downgraded and rejected destinations | Net gate kg |
Cultivation is field-cycle based. Harvest and conditioning are lot/run based. Link every run to its originating field; assign cleaning and changeover energy once. Survey capsule shattering and cutting/header/threshing losses as field-retained seed or residues before capture, with method and destination recorded under cp_harvest; they are not a transferred waste flow or saleable output. An off-spec seed lot can return to cleaning, be downgraded to a documented buyer or become waste after a documented decision. Reworked material retains original burdens plus additional pass burdens.

Urea fertilizer (crop_management_agricultural_nutrient_inputs_urea)
Collection scope and applicability for crop_management_agricultural_nutrient_inputs. The following concrete identities have separate cards and apply only when use or generation is evidenced inside the original process scope. They are not mandatory inputs or a default recipe. Document non-use; missing records are not zero. Add a separate concrete card for any other actual material instead of substituting one of these names or UUIDs. Preserve attribution and boundaries and avoid double counting components included in outsourced services.
Collect each fertilizer product separately. Preserve each actual product identity, quantity, formulation, nutrient composition, application event, and allocation; do not count a compound product more than once. Raw activity or stage basis: Per accepted gate kg.
Confirm identity, grade, state and unit from equipment, supplier and contemporaneous measurements; the product UUID does not establish actual use or upstream-provider compatibility. Count physical product mass once and retain moisture, N/P/K composition and application events; nutrient quantities are calculated attributes, not additional purchases of the same product. 7. Allocation and Co-product Handling
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
single_product | Grain with retained stalk and loss | Attribute crop burdens to saleable seed; field-retained stalks and unrecovered or unsold seed are not reference product. Record actual residue destination. | ncstate-sesame-2026 |
grade_split | Accepted and sold downgraded grain | Keep grades and masses separate. If both are sold, allocate common burdens on physical seed mass, disclosing shares and grade criteria; economic allocation requires a justified exception and documented prices. | tamu-sesame-2007 |
sold_residue | Deliberately sold stalk or chaff | If residues are marketed, record dry mass and destination and review multi-output allocation before release; do not assume zero burden. | ncstate-sesame-2026 |
run_rework | Shared runs and re-cleaning | Attribute shared machinery, cleaning and changeovers once using recorded time or mass. A reworked lot retains original burdens plus each actual additional pass; intermediate mass is not counted twice. | tamu-sesame-2007 |
Concrete cards do not inherit numerical ranges from the former aggregate card. Determine quantities from original records, stock/meter reconciliation and the declared reference flow; no default quantity or numeric screen is supplied without evidence matching the identity, unit, period and boundary. Missing range evidence is a quality disclosure, not zero use or proof of completeness.

|---|---|---|---|
allocation_residual_precedence | remaining common burden with no specified primary branch | Resolve any study-specific joint-product instruction in this PCR that has no specified primary branch using this precedence; retain an already explicitly prescribed category-specific primary method. First directly assign separable output-specific activities. For the remaining common burden B, use a physical driver d_i only when measured operation or biological-service records demonstrate the causal consumption represented by that driver. A product being weighable, valuable or lower grade alone is insufficient; do not switch arbitrarily between area, time, mass and revenue. For comparable grades receiving the same common handling, measured processed mass is applicable only with the same service demand, state and moisture basis demonstrated. Share a_i=d_i/sum(d_j); B_i=Ba_i. If no defensible causal physical driver exists for that common operation, use gate- and period-matched economic shares a_i=(q_ip_i)/sum(q_j*p_j), with the complete independently intended output set, compatible quantity/price units, currency, representative prices and values before output-specific downstream processing. Missing price or denominator evidence makes the allocated result incomplete, not a zero-priced product or a single-output system. Report shares summing to one and sensitivity to a material alternative; an alternative is not an interchangeable primary result. Waste, retained residues and internal transfers receive no co-product share, while their attributable production/handling burdens remain with the producing saleable route. Retain unallocated physical quantities and mass balances separately. This branch gives no automatic substitution credit; any separately scoped substitution analysis retains the gross inventory and its actual displaced-function evidence. | ghg-protocol-product-standard-2011 |
8. Foreground Data Collection, Calculation, and Quality Rules
Specific input identification before dataset completion
Identify the actual input for this operation from supplier specifications, equipment and primary records. This is a mandatory collection requirement, not an exchange. Before dataset completeness, represent each used material, formulated product, carrier or independently purchased service by one physically specific card with its native quantity/property; confirm a compatible UUID, or retain an explicit unresolved identity and do not claim a fully linked dataset. Do not substitute a conditional example for an unknown actual input, invent a recipe, omit required use or infer zero from missing records. Attribute shared use, reusable assets and inclusive services once; preserve the original stage/period and measured throughput link to final reference output. The former aggregate range is not a component limit or consumption default.

|---|---|---|
protection_input_specific_input | cp_field | Operation crop_management: Record each herbicide, insecticide or fungicide used, including active ingredient and concentration, without assuming an application. Original quantity method: Actual kg of this formulation applied in the field-cycle. |
field_fuel_specific_input | cp_field | Operation crop_management: Record fuel for actual planting, cultivation, spraying or pumping operations; share equipment use by logged time or area. Original quantity method: Measured or invoiced litres attributed to the field-cycle. |
harvest_fuel_specific_input | cp_harvest | Operation harvest_thresh: Record fuel for actual cutting, threshing or combining machines. For shattering varieties, cutting, field drying, bundling and manual threshing labor hours stay in cp_harvest; a direct-combine run reports combine passes. These technology routes are mutually exclusive for a harvest run. [ncstate-sesame-2026] Original quantity method: Actual litres consumed by harvest run. |
Retain raw site, lot, cycle and stage quantities and denominators in each collection protocol. Reconcile stocks, losses, moisture and co-product attribution first, then normalize: normalized exchange = attributable raw exchange × declared reference quantity / accepted hand-off product quantity on the same boundary and measurement basis. Apply perennial-establishment and shared-operation attribution before this normalization. Never set an internal-transfer quantity equal to the final reference quantity. Per declared reference flow means the amount, unit and product state in section 3; the data package must declare its actual route and gate.
The quantity ranges on flow cards are review triggers before normalization, not inventory defaults or universal acceptance limits. Use actual field, lot and run records for amounts; investigate values outside provisional screens against route, region, units and measurement quality. Regional planting-rate examples are illustrative only.

Environmental Coverage Calculation Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Formula or rule | Inputs | Output | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
calc_managed_environment_coverage | actual managed-production nodes | For the actual owned managed-production node(s), require an applicability ledger for direct soil N2O, volatilisation/deposition-derived indirect N2O, leaching/runoff-derived indirect N2O, NH3/NOx and nutrient losses, plus actual liming/urea-use CO2. Primary calculation precedence is a representative pathway measurement, then a validated site/national method applicable to the crop, soil and management; otherwise use the compatible 2006 IPCC/2019-refined managed-soil equations and climate/input-specific factor selection for N2O and lime/urea CO2. Retain the exact edition, equation, tier, activity and factor units, climate and management applicability; no universal dose or emission factor is prescribed. Non-soil/protected routes need a method valid for their actual medium; do not force soil factors onto an inapplicable route. Use the same period/field N ledger for synthetic and organic additions, residues, actual relevant mineralisation/organic-soil and excreta pathways; demonstrate absent pathways rather than infer zero. Calculate direct and each indirect component separately, then assign each once to matching existing or new concrete cards; never add a total to its components. Convert N2O-N to molecular N2O by 44/28 once. NH3, NOx and nutrient/pesticide loss require an applicable measured or documented substance/fate model; total N/P or an unexplained balance residual is not a compound release. Keep actual receiving compartments and molecular versus elemental/reporting bases explicit; indirect formation does not remove the same N from the source ledger twice. Include actual local combustion releases separately using fuel-specific combustion-only methods; purchased electricity/heat/services retain upstream coverage once. Add one identity-specific exchange only for a supported release and reuse an existing matching card, with verified UUID or explicit unresolved identity. Missing applicable method/activity/factor/identity blocks completeness; it is not a justified zero. Attribute raw activity/release totals and normalize once to the matched accepted reference output. | cp_phase1_environment_coverage | attributed native environmental quantities per matched final reference | review-ipcc-soils-2019 |
calc_managed_land_coverage | actual managed-production nodes | For each actual owned managed-production site, collect the occupied area and dated occupation intervals, including attributable establishment/immature and production periods. Occupation is area multiplied by actual duration, converted explicitly to the selected area-time unit (1 ha = 10,000 m2; time in years); hectares per crop-cycle alone are not an area-time result without duration. Partition or take the union of overlapping establishment/management intervals so the same area-time is counted once, with shares across actual co-users summing to one. Record evidenced land transformation separately by actual from/to land class, event area and date under the declared land-use method; transformation has area units and is not added to occupation. Planting, continued occupation or missing prior-land data do not establish a transformation or zero transformation. Preserve actual historical-event attribution and carbon-stock/emission method coverage where applicable; no invented land conversion or generic carbon credit. Instantiate separate compatible elementary identities with verified UUIDs or explicit unresolved identities; attribute once and normalize to the matched final reference. Purchased completed biological inputs inherit compatible upstream land coverage once instead of duplicating it locally. Missing applicable land identity, area, duration or prior-state evidence remains a completeness gap; documented no transformation is a valid absence. | cp_phase1_environment_coverage | attributed native environmental quantities per matched final reference |
