Classification mapping
Source
1. Scope and Applicability
This PCR covers cultivated peaches and nectarines (Prunus persica) from a bearing orchard through the declared farm-gate or first market hand-off as fresh, marketable fruit.
It includes orchard management, irrigation, nutrient and crop-protection applications, pruning and thinning, harvest, field handling, and on-site sorting, cooling, and packing before hand-off. Nursery production, orchard establishment, post-handoff transport, retail, consumer use, end-of-life treatment, and processed fruit are excluded by default.
2. Product Category Identity
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| canonical_pcr_id | pcr.agriculture-forestry-and-fishery-products.products-of-agriculture-horticulture-and-market-gardening.peaches-and-nectarines |
| classification_refs | CPC 3.0 01345 — Peaches and nectarines; mapping relation: exact |
| covered_products | Fresh cultivated peaches and nectarines, bulk or packed, at the declared first market hand-off |
| excluded_products | Nursery trees; orchard establishment unless annualized; processed fruit; downstream distribution, retail, consumer use, and end-of-life treatment |
| representative_product | 1 kg net marketable fresh peach or nectarine with species, cultivar, maturity/quality grade, production system, geography, and harvest year declared |
| production_route | Managed perennial orchard production → harvest and field handling → optional on-site sorting, cooling, and packing |
| market_state | Fresh, harvested, marketable fruit at the declared hand-off; packaging is excluded from product mass |
3. Reference Flow
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| What | One kg of net marketable fresh peaches or nectarines at the declared farm-gate or first market hand-off |
| How much | 1 kg net product output, excluding culls, field losses, process rejects, and packaging |
| How well | Declared species, cultivar, fresh state, harvest maturity, quality/market grade, production system, and product condition |
| How long or cycle | One declared crop cycle and harvest season; disclose reporting period, orchard age, and annualisation convention |
| reference_flow_link | reference_product_at_declared_handoff |

| Reference unit group | Units of mass 93a60a57-a4c8-11da-a746-0800200c9a66 |
| Reference unit | kg |
| Required qualifiers | species; cultivar; fresh market state; harvest maturity; quality or market grade; production system; production geography; harvest year or crop cycle; declared hand-off; net product-mass basis; on-site sorting/cooling/packing status |
When constructing a foreground package, all required qualifiers must be declared in dataset metadata, process notes, the reference-flow comment, the product description, or an equivalent field.
The sole reference output is reference_product_at_declared_handoff at declared_reference_handoff, a mandatory measurement of the actual accepted product at the already declared gate. Process onsite_sort_cool_pack remains conditional: omission of its physical activities does not remove this reference. Select the actual last included product handoff and record its process/output id; accept only the same species, physical state, grade, moisture basis and gate as Section 3. The prior marketable_fresh_fruit row is the measured output of its actual operation when active, not an additional final sale. No bypass creates processing, a yield assumption, an extra burden or a change of product boundary.
4. Measurement and Unit Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Required property | Required unit | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|---|
reference_mass | reference product | Mass | kg | Normalize to net marketable fruit mass; exclude containers, culls, and waste fruit. |
water_volume | irrigation and washing water | Volume | m3 | Convert metered or documented water volume to m3. |
nutrient_basis | fertilizer and amendments | Product mass and nutrient basis | kg product; kg N/P/K | Record actual product and declared or measured nutrient basis. |
5. System Boundary
Boundary Abstraction
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| declared_starting_condition | Bearing orchard block ready for the declared crop cycle |
| starting_condition_role | Fixes the annual foreground boundary; existing orchard capital and prior establishment are excluded unless annualized |
| product_classification_scope | Cultivated fresh peaches and nectarines from orchard production through the declared hand-off |
| recursive_input_rule | Do not recursively model same-category harvested fruit; a separate packing route records the upstream fruit dataset |
| upstream_dataset_requirement | Use linked background or secondary datasets for purchased inputs and resolve identity and geography |
| disclosure | Declare orchard age, productive area, species/cultivar, irrigation source, production system, crop cycle, yield, loss routes, and on-site conditioning |
Boundary Rules
| rule_id | Applies to | Rule | source_ids |
|---|---|---|---|
boundary_starting_condition | orchard production | Include the attributable orchard establishment, nursery-stock supply, immature years, replacement and termination contribution as well as the bearing-year crop cycle. Use the documented benefiting productive-life output basis: for each native activity pool E, year y receives E*Q_y/sum(Q_y) over the evidenced completed cohort life or site-specific actual-plus-forecast trajectory; do not pool unlike numerator units. Add directly measured bearing-year operations once, then apply Section 7 and final normalization. Missing history or a nonpositive/unknown lifetime output denominator blocks completeness, not permission to exclude establishment. Supplier-covered nursery production is linked once; no invented universal lifetime. | source_ucanr_peach_nectarine_cultural; source_iso_14044 |
boundary_management_and_harvest | orchard and harvest | Include crop management, irrigation, nutrient and crop protection, pruning/thinning, harvest, and field handling. | source_ucanr_peach_nectarine_cultural; source_ucanr_peach_fertilizer |
boundary_optional_packhouse | on-site conditioning | Include on-site sorting, cooling, and packing only when before hand-off; otherwise disclose downstream. | source_usda_ams_fresh_fruit_grades |

Urea fertilizer (orchard_management_agricultural_nutrient_inputs_urea)
Collection scope and applicability for orchard_management_agricultural_nutrient_inputs. The following concrete identities have separate cards and apply only when use or generation is evidenced inside the original process scope. They are not mandatory inputs or a default recipe. Document non-use; missing records are not zero. Add a separate concrete card for any other actual material instead of substituting one of these names or UUIDs. Preserve attribution and boundaries and avoid double counting components included in outsourced services.
Collect each fertilizer product separately. Preserve each actual product identity, quantity, formulation, nutrient composition, application event, and allocation; do not count a compound product more than once. Raw activity or stage basis: per 1 kg net marketable fruit output.
Confirm identity, grade, state and unit from equipment, supplier and contemporaneous measurements; the product UUID does not establish actual use or upstream-provider compatibility. Count physical product mass once and retain moisture, N/P/K composition and application events; nutrient quantities are calculated attributes, not additional purchases of the same product. Give unlisted compound and organic fertilizers separate cards identified by formulation or feedstock.

Net marketable fresh fruit at hand-off (marketable_fresh_fruit)
Record the measured accepted output of onsite_sort_cool_pack only when that operation actually occurs. Preserve species, condition, grade, moisture, lot and its real outgoing gate. This stable row id identifies an actual route output; the sole final reference is reference_product_at_declared_handoff. Retain raw output and link the selected final lot without counting it as another final product. Any UUID shown is usable only for its independently confirmed physical state/gate; an incompatible upstream/intermediate state needs a separately verified or explicit unresolved identity. Preserve the original stage measurement and collection records.

Process: Accepted-product measurement at declared handoff (declared_reference_handoff)
This measurement adds no processing, waste generation or emission. Preserve all real upstream operations and losses; bypass only operations demonstrated absent. Select one actual terminal product lot and cancel its paired internal transfer once when aggregating the system. Do not sum inactive routes, co-products or both source and handoff as accepted final output.

Accepted actual-route product at the same handoff (actual_route_product_for_handoff)
Measure only accepted product at the existing declared gate. Match one actual terminal source record; internal paired transfer and this reference represent the same event, not two sales. Concrete cards do not inherit numerical ranges from the former aggregate card. Determine quantities from original records, stock/meter reconciliation and the declared reference flow; no default quantity or numeric screen is supplied without evidence matching the identity, unit, period and boundary. Missing range evidence is a quality disclosure, not zero use or proof of completeness.
8. Foreground Data Collection, Calculation, and Quality Rules
Specific input identification before dataset completion
Identify the actual input for this operation from supplier specifications, equipment and primary records. This is a mandatory collection requirement, not an exchange. Before dataset completeness, represent each used material, formulated product, carrier or independently purchased service by one physically specific card with its native quantity/property; confirm a compatible UUID, or retain an explicit unresolved identity and do not claim a fully linked dataset. Do not substitute a conditional example for an unknown actual input, invent a recipe, omit required use or infer zero from missing records. Attribute shared use, reusable assets and inclusive services once; preserve the original stage/period and measured throughput link to final reference output. The former aggregate range is not a component limit or consumption default.

Retain raw site, lot, cycle and stage quantities and denominators in each collection protocol. Reconcile stocks, losses, moisture and co-product attribution first, then normalize: normalized exchange = attributable raw exchange × declared reference quantity / accepted hand-off product quantity on the same boundary and measurement basis. Apply perennial-establishment and shared-operation attribution before this normalization. Never set an internal-transfer quantity equal to the final reference quantity. Per declared reference flow means the amount, unit and product state in section 3; the data package must declare its actual route and gate.

Environmental Coverage Calculation Rules

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
calc_managed_environment_coverage | actual managed-production nodes | For the actual owned managed-production node(s), require an applicability ledger for direct soil N2O, volatilisation/deposition-derived indirect N2O, leaching/runoff-derived indirect N2O, NH3/NOx and nutrient losses, plus actual liming/urea-use CO2. Primary calculation precedence is a representative pathway measurement, then a validated site/national method applicable to the crop, soil and management; otherwise use the compatible 2006 IPCC/2019-refined managed-soil equations and climate/input-specific factor selection for N2O and lime/urea CO2. Retain the exact edition, equation, tier, activity and factor units, climate and management applicability; no universal dose or emission factor is prescribed. Non-soil/protected routes need a method valid for their actual medium; do not force soil factors onto an inapplicable route. Use the same period/field N ledger for synthetic and organic additions, residues, actual relevant mineralisation/organic-soil and excreta pathways; demonstrate absent pathways rather than infer zero. Calculate direct and each indirect component separately, then assign each once to matching existing or new concrete cards; never add a total to its components. Convert N2O-N to molecular N2O by 44/28 once. NH3, NOx and nutrient/pesticide loss require an applicable measured or documented substance/fate model; total N/P or an unexplained balance residual is not a compound release. Keep actual receiving compartments and molecular versus elemental/reporting bases explicit; indirect formation does not remove the same N from the source ledger twice. Include actual local combustion releases separately using fuel-specific combustion-only methods; purchased electricity/heat/services retain upstream coverage once. Add one identity-specific exchange only for a supported release and reuse an existing matching card, with verified UUID or explicit unresolved identity. Missing applicable method/activity/factor/identity blocks completeness; it is not a justified zero. Attribute raw activity/release totals and normalize once to the matched accepted reference output. | cp_phase1_environment_coverage | attributed native environmental quantities per matched final reference | review-ipcc-soils-2019 |

calc_final_handoff_normalization | all foreground quantities and actual route outputs | Let R be positive measured accepted final mass in kg for one matched species/state/grade/gate/period, excluding tare, rejects, co-products and held stock. Physical ledger = raw physical quantity/R * 1 kg, without burden-allocation scaling. Attributable inventory contribution = attributable raw quantity/R * 1 kg, preserving native numerator units and the existing output/period attribution. A local intensity q_i=Q_i/O_i first reconstructs Q_i=q_iactual linked O_i; do not divide by R again after final normalization. Both handoff sides are the same measured event R/R1 kg, not another physical yield. Include only actual active operations; record and substantiate bypass.
